FERGUSON'S MINING AND SMELTING CO., LTD.

The chairman and one of the directors, accompanied by the Government mining inspector, visited the smelting works at YVaiomio. They found both plant and machinery in first-class order, and quite ready to commence smelting, which unfortunately lias been retarded owing to the non-arrival of the ironstone from Kauri mountain. Owing to the easterly winds, which for some eight weeks have prevailed, the scows have not been able to load up the ore. The main object of the visit to Waiomio was to place the smelting works under the superintendence of Mr Wm. Cock, who has had large experience of smelting operations both in Europe and Australia. Mr Myers, who came from Colorado, U.S.A., to erect the smelter, has completed his ■work and has now returned to America. The trial tests were made under his superintendence, and he has satisfied the directors that the work undertaken by him has been satisfactorily completed.
