WHANGAREL.

A public meeting of electors was held last nisht. In Steadnian's Rooms with a view to tendering a banquet to Mr F. llander, member for Marsden. prior to his departure for Wellington te take up his Parliamentary duties. It was decided that the function take the form of a social and banquet, and that ladles be invited, at a date to be flied later on. The following gentlemen were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements:—Messrs T. McCliiitock (Mayor). H. Weaver. W. A. Carruth, D W. Jack. J. Marshall. E. Hutchings H Stewart. TV. Crawford. IV. A. M. Bain. A. R. Crane, and Dr. Baxter. Messrs F O. Massey and J. Andre were asked to act as joint secretaries. A vote of thanks to the Mayor for presiding terminated the meeting. The sports promoted by the Whangare! Athletl: Club, to take place on Easter Mon day promise to be a big affair. The secre tary has received 05 nominations to date foi the different events. Considerable Interest attaches to a half-mile running match between Tattle Dunn and D. Mason for £25 a side, which Is to be decided the same day under (be auspices of the club officials. The Whang.irel Brass Band has been secured for the flay. The sports ground has been well rolled and levelled, and a good cinder track laid down. Given suitable weather the meeting should be a big success.
