THE TOWN HALL.
The Town Hall Committee of the City Council has received from the engineer a report, in which he recommended that t Oainaru limestone be substituted for the , proposed "brick and cement dressings in the front of the Great Hall, Town Hall, at an additional estimated ; cost of £2000. In a later report, Mr. "Bush reported that after consultation with Mr. Biddle he did not care to hold but to the committee the possibility of j any reduction in the capital cost of" the building as contracted for. Messrs. J. i J. arid E. J. Clark stated that a saving of several hundred pounds might be I effected in the plastering, but they had | not come to a decision as to a substitu- j tion. Messrs. C'lnrk were satisfied with , the use of a really good facing brick for I the elevation; and he did not press his ! recommendation, which was made to j [secure uniformity in external treatment) lof the building. The committee recoin- j mended that as the financial position | would not permit of Btone being substituted, ho change be made in the contract. The recommendation was agreed to.
