AUCKLAND LAND BOARD.

The Auckland Land Board met this morning. Present: Messrs J. Strauchon, Commissioner of Crown Lands, in the chair, Capt. Swindley, A. R. Harris, "ft*. Armstrong, and J. Trounson. Te Puke A. and P. Association.—lt was resolved to grant the Te Puke A. and i. Association a year to year lease over section 22a, block 11., Maketu S.D., being a gazetted landing reserve, containing 10 acres 1 rood 20 perches, at an annua- 1 rental of £1, subject to the usual conditions. Halves.—The following scheme of expenditure of halves was approved of: Mangonul County Council, £4S 4/5. Mining Lands.—lt was resolved to refuse certain applications for sections in the Coromandel, Tairua, and Aroha survey districts, In terms of reports received from the wardens, such reports pointing out that the said lauds are mineralised, and should he open to prospectors. Capt. Swindley complained that some of these reports were arbitrary, and fell hard upon some applicants. It was another Instance of the evil consequences of dual authority. The Commissioners pointed out that they could not override the warden, whose authority had most weight in a mining district. A Ranger Supported.—A letter was read from the Board s ranger at Tairua replying to charges made against him by Mr John Kearney. It was resolved to advise Mr Kearney that the Board had every confidence in its ranger. Lands for Selection.—lt was resolved that the following lands be thrown up for selection:—Under part 111., Land Act, 1908, section 6, block XV., Flrongla S.D., 64a Or 31p, at 85/; section 7, block XV., Plrongla S.D., 200 a. at 30/; section 8, block XV., Pirongia S.D., 240 a, at 30/; section 17, block 111., Orahlrl S.D., 66a lr, at section 13, block HI., and 9, block IV., •Orahiri S.D., 139 a, at 45/; section 21, block 111., Obahtri, 360 a, at 22/6. Under renewable lease: Section 88, Mangonul East Ph., 72Ca 2r 29p. at 10/. Under section 133, Land Act, 190S: Section 12, Purangi Ph., 54a 3r, at 10/. Under Land for Settlement Act: Section 16, Plume Hamlet, 46a lip, at £20 an acre. Timber Ifloating Licenses.—The following timber licenses were renewed for various periods:—D. Goldie, over Orualti river: D. Goldie, over Taipa river; D. McKenzie. over Waipu river; McCarroll Bros., over Mongonui river; Mitchelson Timber Co., over Wairoa river; the last two subject to the Marine Department offering no objection. It was also resolved to grant to the Mitchelson Timber Co. a floating license over the Matakono and Arapoha rivers, subject to the Commissioner's approval. It was also resolved, to give the same firm two years' extension of time for the removal of timber purchased by them standing in the Tutamoe survey district. I Applications Refused.—lt was resolved ■to refuse applications for 50 acres lv the Paremoremo Parish (part Riverhead knur] gum reserve), and for 60 acres In the same I parish (lately part of same reserve), these ! blocks to be subdivided and opened to the public in small areas. > Kauri Gum Reserves.—lt was resolved to advise the Minister to cause the reserve under the Kauri Gum Industry Act, on section 245, Mangawai Parish, 10a 21p, to be lifted, so that the land may be dealt with as ordinary Crown land. ■Ngaruawahia.—lt was resolved to rescind the resolution of the Board of the 25th ult., offering sections 173 and 174, suburbs of Ngaruawahia, by auction, as it is found that this cannot be done, being a recreation
