NEW COAL DISCOVERY.
IMPORTANT FIND AT WHANGAREI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ; — WHANGAREI, this day. An important discovery is reported of a large seam of coal in the Whangarei Valley. The Whangarei Diamond Drill Prospecting Company yesterday bored through a seam of coal in the Whangarei Valley on Mr S. Roye's property, showing a thickness of nearly 18 feet. The coal is said to be of excellent quality. The depth of the borehole is 113 feet, through green sandstone. This discovery is of great importance to our district, and will give an impetus to the coal trade whenever the field ia opened up. I understand that Mr T. P. Moody is connected with this venture.
