SERIOUS DAMAGE DONE.

PALMERSTON NORTH, this day.
Fire broke out in the tailoring. establishment of Coliinson and. Cunningham at 11.30 last-night,,and had a tug hold when discovered.•': The brigade put in some good < work,': and prevented the i flames spreadingy .Cpllinsoh and Cunningham's premises ■>. were completely gutted, and the stock- .suffered from water. Ihacker/s..;.rwpt'shop adjoining was also damaged-by'water; The insurances.-on: the ; stock are . as follows:— : -Collins6n. and 'Cunningham, £1,050 in the Commercial Union; £750 in the New Zealand. The.insurances are: £4000 in the New Zealand, £500 in the London, Liverpool, and Globe; on furniture, sk 1500 in the latter office. '.'.■•'•
The stock in Hallenstein Bros.' premises, beneath a portion pf the hotel that was on fire, waß damaged by water, but not' to a great .extent. •
