(To the Editor.) Sir,—At the present time there are over one hundred mining propositions in the Auckland province, and only four -dividend payers. A great mining speculator once remarked: "That after many years he had come to the conclusion that it was only safe to put money into mines rich enough to be fool-proof." Penny calls, will not make a mine fool-proof—will, indeed, only prove the folly of fools to ante up for the benefit of directors and legal managers, instead of combining -with other companies in the same business to retain the services of a first-class consulting mining engineer.—l am, etc., H.
