MIDLAND RAILWAY EXTENSION
» (By. Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON, Sunday." A large gathering of settlers from Duller Valley and citizens of Nelson he'd a public meeting at Kohatu on Saturday to discuss matters in connection with the welfare of the district. The meeting expressed satisfaction at the authorisation of the extension of the Midland railway to Hope-road; at Nelson, and decided to urge the Government to actively prosecute the completion of the line. It was agreed to ask the Government to transfer the men available through the completion of the North Island trunk line for the work. llt was pointed out that the line would be of little use to the district until it reached Hope-road, as freights over Hope Saddle are at present heavily handicapped.
