BOWLING.

Local bowlers have been looking forward to a visit from a New South Wales team in January next, but by last mail Mr. Rankin received a letter from a prominent Sydney bowler, stating that there is very little prospect of a team visiting the North Island, on account of the North Island Association failing to fall into line over the "two feet on the mat" rule. The rule of delivering a ball with two feet on the mat has been adopted by N.SIW., Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, and the South Island, but was rejected by the North Island Association at a meeting held recently. The action of the North Island Association in standing out will mean that there can be no interchange of visits between our local Association and bowlers from the other side, unless the local Association adopt the same rules. We understand that at the next meeting of the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association the question of playing with two feet on the mat will be considered.
