COROMANDEL COUNTY COUNCIL.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) COROMANDEL, Tuesday. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Coromandel County Council took place yesterday. The Hon. .Tames McGownu intimated that an additional £500 for the Kaimarama bridge had been placed on the Public Works Estimates by the Hoads Department, which (if passed) would, with the Mines Department grant, enable the work to be proceeded with. It was resolved that the Roads Department should be requested to carry ont the work In concrete as soon as the money whs available. J. B. Steadman and Sons, Waikawau requested the Council to make application for a grant of £200 for widening the Waika-wau-McLaughlin's-road. A copy of the letter is to be sent to the Hon. James McGowan. The Hon. James McGowan intimated that £400 for repairing the road from Kaimarama to Sullivan's Creek had been placed on the Estimates, and that he was co-operating with the Minister for Lands with regard to the question of settling unoccupied Crown lands in Coromandel .County. The Minister for Lands stated that the matter had been referred 'to the Anckland Crown Lands Board. The acting-clerk of Thames Borough wrote regarding the increasing cost of charitable aid, and as to the desirability of the contributing local bodies conferring with a view to reducing the cost, also suggesting that Coromandel should separate from the Thames and Coromandel united district. A resolution was passed approving of the desirability of separation. It was decided to strike a general rate of IJd in the £ on all the ratable property In Coromandel County for the year ending March 31, 1908.
