QUANTITY SURVEYOR'S BILL. At the meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, a letter was read from Ja*. A. Stewart, quantity surveyor, enclosing a note of his fees in connection with the proposed .new ferry offices. "I should be greatly obliged if you could see your way," the ■writer continued, "to pay mc a proportion of the amount, say bet-ween £800 and £900. When you realiee that my profession is a new one here, and that all my assistants have to be brought from the Old Country, you can understand that my expenses are heavy." The account totalled £ 1369 2/6, the chief figure being £1200 "to approximate fees for measuring and preparing original schedule of quantities of the several works required, in accordance with the plans and specifications to be executed in the erection of the proposed new building, 1J per cent on (say) £80,000."
