Mi?s Jean Hcrwison, of Perth, Scotland, will give a recital from the works of Robert Burns, in the V.M.C.A. Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The "New York Mail and Express" says—"Miss Jean Howison has captured many an American audience by the grace and charm of her platform efforts. The gifted Scotch lady is both a lecturer and an elocutionist. Her favourite platform topic '3 Robert Burns, of whom, in common with Scotsmen and Scotswomen on either continent, she is an enthusias-. tic admirer. She is herself a native of Perth, but n few miles distant from the now word-famed Drumtochty, and knows both the village and the author. She has just enough of Scotia's delightful bropue to give a sympathetic and entertaining presentation of Scotland's latest prose classic, and to make to live anew the historic figure of Jamie Soutar and Drumshengu, of Mrs. Macfaydcn *nd Dr. WeelunL Madura."
