COX'S CREEK SEWER

The City Engineer recently reported on the Cox's Creek drainage, and stated that, broadly speaking, the nuisance could be obviated in two ways—(a) By a, permanent construction taking both foul sewage and storm water; (b) by a temporary pipe or timber trough to take just the foul sewage at present discharging into the creek. That independent of these methods there is to be determined the best system for dealing with the sewers at present discharging into the creek, and recommending that a 12in. pipe be extended from the terminus of the 3 foot barrel sewer as far as the line of proposed branch inter- j cepting. sewer, and that a similar proce- I dure be adopted with the 3ft 6in x sft 3in sewer. Healsoproposed to construct27ooft of ISin. x 12in. Ponsonby branch intercepting sewer from its intending junction with main outfall sewer in Rich-mond-road, and to connect to this the 21in. pipe from Grey Lynn; that for drainage of creek proper he would suggest — (n) an invert only for a largo enough sewer to deal with the whole of the storm water entering the creek (which is the most satisfactory method for the combined Councils to adopt), or (b) to finish the Fewer off completely, and form a culvert right down the channel of the creek. He submitted costs of the various works, and gave the cost of scheme recommended at £17,000 (about). On the recommendation of tho Works Committee, the City Council decided to send a copy of the report to the Grey Lynn Borough Council, with an intimation that the committee would confer with them on the matter.
