TO ENCOURAGE TREE PLANTING.
IBs Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An inetresting discussion took place at the Farmers' Union Conference to-day on the following remit: " That, in order to encourage the planting of foorest trees, all land over one acre in extent planted with forest trees should be exempt from land tax and local rates. Several speakers urged that New Zealand was on , the eve of a timber famine, and that , some enc&uragement should be given to ; the planting of trees. The motion was passed, and it was decided to bring under , the notice of the Government the ques- ; tion of granting a bonus for all land , planted l in trees.
