SETTLING THE DIFFERENCES.
GOVERNMENT AND THE ADMIRALS. (Received 8.14 a.m.) LONDON, July 14. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Reginald McKenna, First Lord of the Admiralty, replying to Lieutenant C. W. Bellairs, M.P. for King's Lynn, said that the Admiralty considered the incident relating to Admiral Scott's signal in November of last year closed. Mr. McKenna, in reply to Mr. A. H. Lee, Conservative M.P. for Fareham division of Hants, said that it would be the work of the Government to compose any alleged existing differences in the Navy. These appeared to have been more emphasised by the Press than was in the least called for, and as far as the Admiralty was concerned were based on unverified rumour. He added that circumstances had already yielded to a more satisfactory state of things. The statement was received with cheers.
