(Received 8.45 a.m.) .1 NEW_ YORK, June 18. .- 5_ sham battle was proceeding to-day £rhen the Cunarder Mauritania entered the Narrows of New York Harbour, the forts being engaged in repulsing'a "naval sjttack. The liner was compelled to stop for 20 minutes while the firing-proceeded,* and the concussion from the ' huge guns jnounted at the forts broke glass and Krockeryw—re on the vessel to the value of #4000.
