_ A word of warning to unskilled labour is given in this month's issue of the "labour Journal." In the main, it says, work has been offering fairly freely in the 1 country. There has been a demand . for bushmen, and a few farmhands have also been in request. A call has also been "ade for skilled navvies for Otira. locally, there is not much work offering, and the prospects for the coming winter do not to be good. The works controlled by the Wellington City Council are nearing completion, but it is expected that by the time these works are out of hand the making of the new dam at Wainui-o-mata will be commenced. The Lyttelton Harbour Board's works are. also fully manned, and no new extensive works are contemplated. Speaking generally, there appears to be no demand in the city at present for unskilled \labour, and with the present condition *f the building trade it would not be wise for country workmen to make for ..the-town, as i s usual at this time of the ?car. Applicants for employment to the Department must now be prepared to fcttept country or co-operative employ.»ent, which is still available for willing Workers. During the month 157 men **»«-assisted to public and private empojaent.
