SEWAGE AT COX'S CREEK.
' IMPROVEMENTS NECESSARY. At the meeting of the City Council last night the primitive sewage outfall at Cox's Creek, came in for some criticism. A deputation from the Grey Lynn Borough Council brought the matter forward. Mr G. Sayers (Mayor of Grey Lynn) isaid they wished to see if some amicable '.arrangement could be arrived at wkereby 'the nuisance now being created at Cox's Creek could be abated. The City Council had two large open sewers running into this mud flat of thre<= or four acres in extent. These sewers drained a thickly-populated area. Grey Lynn had three small sewers, also draining into the fiat. He drew attention to the fact that recently there had been a typhoid outbreak in Grey Lynn* though he did not say it was directly traceable to this area." He suggested that the City Council should proceed at once to lay" pipes from the present outfall of their two sewers to the line of the Grey Lynn drains. Then the two bodies -should combine and connect the two outfalls, carrying them by one pipe to the natural channel beyond Cashmore's Mill. They were not unmindful of the drainage scheme, but in the meantime something should be done to abate the nuisance. Other members of the deputation emphasised the necessity for the work. j Mr Bush, in reply to a question, said ?he had not gone into the question, Phut thought that if the City and Grey 'Lynn Councils took the matter up, they should "make a job of it:" The Mayor assured the deputation* that the Council was alive to its responsibilities, and in the meantime they iwould obtain a full report on the matter.
