RISDJG SUN G.M. CO. A lengthy report has been submitted to the directors of the Rising Sun G.M. Co. by Mr C. 11. Taylor regarding a trial crushing of 50 tons of ore, which look place, at the Now Waitekauri L'o.'s mill. The ore. yielded f>B ozs. of retorted bullion, JO ozs 3 dwts 4 grs fine gold, and Iβ ozs 17 dwts 6 grs of fine silver. A sample of the pulp at the lip of the mortar assayed €3 19/2 per ton. Air Taylor is of opinion that a very large proportion of the silver was precipitated near the filter cloths by tfie action of iron salts present in the ore. This nlso applies to the gold in a lesser degree. lie is of opinion that the ore from the Rising Sun is one of the cleanest he has ever handled, and the crushing has demonstrated very satisfactory values in the ore, also that a large percentage of bullion of good grade can be recovered by amalgamation on the copper plates and in the mortar boxes, tliat the ore is of a very friable nature and easily crushed, that it requires concentrating, as high-grade product can be obtained, that the sands and slimes require separate treatment owing to their variable values in silver sulphides. He also expresses the opinion that the ore can be milled and treated very economically under favourable conditions and with a suitable plant. MINE MANAGERS , REPORTS. Tuirun Golden Hills.—The low-level crosscut Ims been extended 89ft for the week, making the total distance driven ISlft. There Is no change in the country since last report. This drive should now be vertically below the intersection of (ho reef in the uplier crosscut. The underlie has now to be dealt with, which will throw the reef 00ft further to the west and which is the distance to be driven to cut the reef. Should the country continue as at present this distauce should be accomplished In less than two weeks from date. The course of the drive is now more to the west, so that these two levels will be running parallel to each other. No. 1 reef north Is in CGft. The reef at this point is a fine body of stone Oft wide, and of a payable nature. No. 1 reef, south: This south drive lias been driven on for a total distance of 7Sft, left having been driven for the past week: sft of ore Is exposed in the present face with no walls showing. Tins end r>[ the reef prospects well, and Ims maintained both size and values throughout the week. TUames.—The country is still hard, which renders progress slow. New Una. -At the last breaking down the reef was fully 30 inches wide, with every appearance of opening out. The quartz is solid, and contains a great quantity of bright mineral and zinc blende. Owhig to gas, ■work had to be suspended pending a change of weather. Old Ilnurnki.—The SOOrt level hns intersected the winze. The :eef formation in the winze is two feet from wall to wall. Several dishes were washed, and strong colours of free B ohl obtained. The manager intends to drive south on the reef in the Ifanrnki section, where a large hlork is Irtact above this levci. At the 220 ft level Leggo's reef in the second stope averages 7 Inches of lowgrade ore. A rtsc is boin X put up on a Hue looking loader west of the main shaft, which the manager is hopeful will produce cold when it junctions witli the mineral vein No. 2 crossreef in the drive west of No. 7 .it the 2'JOft level averages 2 inches of flrstcl:iss tanking stone, hut no cold has been seen. liising for nn eighth stope on the crossreof is in hand between the slide nnd No. 7. Judging by the results of the last stope, land the appearance of the reef, good ore should come to hand. In the drive mirth the lona leader averages 1 IncUus, and gives fair prospects by crushing. T-osge's reef at the ifiOft level averages (i and is improving in appearance as th« drive advances towards the Jtnurnkl section. In the BnnkPr's section, the Tribute leader averages S Inches. Colours of gold are obtained by crushing and washing. At the 100 ft level, Well's reef nvonises 5 inches, nnd has an encouraging appearance. Tbere is a croßsropf going north and south, which the mnnaffer considers worth driving on Golden Pnh.—The winze on Die reef is down 2oft In favourable country The reef Is still poor. After sinking a few more feet the ni.inni.-er intends to open out 011 the reef nnd drive south to n point where rich ore was got overhead. T'.io v,i nze on the jnnetlon of Dnvls' and Tribute lerds is down 11ft. The qunrtr. still shows U little gold, but so far is not payable. The new lender produces oncour:icln K prospects, winch should load to specimens.

Knrnnn!.—flnnt's roof In tho rise, buttery level, maintains its width. Is solid, i-ompmt. ami heavily mineralised. Operations', uave suspended on the Snotover dropper.

In Ko. 2 stope east the prospects met with are encouraging, as the leader averages from 3 to 4 inches in width, and carries such favourable minerals that the manager anticipates it will make stone. May Queen.—The Queen of Beauty shaft is now down to within about 64ft of the required depth. Good progress is being made with the extension of the northern crosscut from the No. 11 level of this shaft, the completion of which has been Jet on contract. The face is now parsing through a very good class of country, and better progress is being made than was anticipated, and, if the present progress is maintained, the hnngiug-wall branch o" the Xo. 4 lode should be to hand in another sis or seven week's. In the stopes on the footwall branch leader in the May Queen section good grade ore is still being obtained, and the parcel at present under treatment at the battery will be completed some time during nest week. May Queen Extended.—The principal work in this mine at present is the driving of the hill to connect with the main shaft. for the double purpose of securing the shaft by carrying off the surface water and intersecting and prospecting the various reefs at this level. This work has be?n on hand for some months, and the face of the drive is now approaching the point where the connection with the shaft will be made, and also where the first branch of The Adelaide reef should be met with. The country in the face is of a flrst-elass description for gold, and several small leaders passed through during the last few weeks have shown good dabs of gold. Kuranui-Caledonian.—ln this mine the work of opening up the old tribnters' workings on the Red Queeu leader, below No. 4 level, has been in progress lor the past few weeks, and nn intermediate level has now been commenced from, the bottom of the winze on v7hitley's leader eastward, and it is intended to continue this drive to intersect the Cambria reef The leader being driven on, though small, iooks well, nnd what little quartz has been broken down so far shows good dabs of gold,' and •it is thought that the junction of !his loader vith the Cambria reef may carry gold info the main reef and open up a payable block for stoplng. Prospecting works are also being carried on at No. 1 level on Henderson's lender, above the block previously worked. Victoria.—Sloping operations on the hangingwall leader at No. 2 level are still in pi-o-gress, but so far this block has not turned out up to expectations, ns, although a little gold is seen through the quartz each breaking down, very little picked stone has been obtained, and the small size of the leader makes the-obtaining of more or less picked stone necessary for remunerative results. The only other work In progress at present Is that of driving eastward on the course of the Marriner's reef at No. 2 level, which is mostly a clay formation in the face at present, but is expected to improve as the drive advances eastward Into more settled country. Old Alhurnin.—The rise on the Sons of Freedom reef, above the mnin tunnel level, hns now reached n height of 87ft., nnd the reef, which wns pinched out by the slide recently passed through, has now made ngaln into a solid body of quartz. The winze is being carried up on the footwnll side, and nbout 4ft of the footwall portion of the reef is being broken out without any sign of the other wnll being seen, nnd It is Intended to continue the rise, ns at present, until the total height of 100 ft has been reached, and then crosscut through the reef to test Its value on the hungingwall. Wnilii Grind Jnnction.—Progress report for the fortnight ended May 23. lflOS, is ns follows:—Mnin shaft: Totnl depth, SWt. Owing to a breakdown of the Cornish pump very little has been done during the fortnight. South-east crosscut at No. 4 level: Total distance driven. SOOft. A small reef lias been cut through. Width of reef, 2ft: value, 16/. The ground at the back of the reef is mixed with stringers of quartz. Drive! west on No. 4 lode. No. 4 level: Totnl rtiataii"O driven, 71ft, average width of fnotwnll portion being driven on. from 54ft to 71ft. is Srt. nnd the value £3 ss. Drive enst' on No. 4 lode, No. 4 level: Total distance, driven. 44ft. •For the last 10ft there has been a seam of 20In on the footwall assaying £1 3/3. ■ j
