Additional toterest was added to the proceedings, owing to the attendance of the District Officers • Bros. Fredk. Shaw, Prov. GJkL; H. A. A. Nt S!"^ a Vror - DG -M-; and John McLeod, District Secretary, it may be mentioned that the District Officers opened a new lodee of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows on the previous evening at Morrlnsvffie. Several new members were proposed for initiation and additional Interest was added to the proceedings by the District Officers conferring degrees on all the members present. Very Instructive addresses were delivered by the District Officers' on the friendly society movement generally. The Manchester Unity Oddfellows number 20.155 members, and they haye a capital exceeding half a million sterling in New Zealand. The friendly societies in the Dominion paid over £100.000 in sickness and medical benefits last year, the medical profession receiving £30,000 for their services. A matter of considerable local Interest is the fact that the Te Kuiti Lodge is considering the advisability of erecting a hall for the holding of its meetings.
LOYAL HORBIXSVILLE LODGE (M.U.).
A new lodge in connection with the Man-1 Chester Unity Oddfellows was opened at MorrinsTille on Wednesday evening. 27th May, by the officers of the Auckland District, assisted by the representatives of other lodges. Bro. Fredk. Shaw, Provincial G.H., occupied the G.M.s chair: Bro. H. A. A. Le Houx, Prov. D.G.M., the N.G.s chair; Bro. John HcLeod, District Secretary the secretary's chair; and Bro. William llcInman, Permanent Secretary Hot Springs Lodge, the V.G.s chair. The assisting officers were: Bro. Dierek (P.G., Hot Springs Lodge), Guardian; Bro. West (Te Awamutu Lodge), wariten; Bro. Sherlock (Waikatu Lodge). K.S.N.G.: Bro. F. Harris (Hot Springs Lodge), L.S.U.G.; Bro. McKle (Waikato Lodge), 8.5. T.G.; Bro. Fngill (Hot Springs Lodge), L.S.V.G. There were also present representatives of the Fountain of Friendship, Good Intent, Charles Bruce,
Waikato, Howick, Hot Springs, Hamilton, Tβ Awamntq, and ilatamata Lodges." '"■-- - . Bro. G W Brayshaw, X.G.; Charles Gnrnmer, V.G.; GJ F. dates, Pernaanect Secretary; W. j. Neels. • Elective Secretary: P." G. Morse (Hot Springs Lodge), GJJL; Cyril Watts, Treasnrerr Charles Gnmmer and G. W. Bcayshaw, auditors; Alfred Gummer, T. Reed, and John Trust : trustees. The newly-elected officers havin" , been duly installed into office by the Provincial Grand Master, addresses were delivered by the district officers. At the conclusion of the lodge meeting, a well attended social was held in the Phoenii Hall. . Jlnsic was suplpied by Bro. William Mclmnan's Te Aroha string band. Bro ! T Eeid fulfilled the duties of caterer to "the , satisfaction of all, while the duties of M.C. were most satisfactorily attended to by Bro G. W. Brayshaw, Noble Grand.
