HOPE OF AUCKLAND TEXT LO. BECHABITES. The 45th anniversary of the above was celebrated on. Wednesday evening in the Orange Hall, Newton. Some 230 members and friends sat down to tea. Among the visitors was <JQ Hon. George Fowlds, Minister for Education, the Rev. J. A. Luxford, and the district ameers. At the close of the tea, the Hon. George Fowlda gave a short address, congratulating the Tent oc the successful gathering, and expressing his pleasure at being present. After the tables had been cleared, a concert was held, presided over by Bro. W. J. Speight. P.D.C.R. On the platform "were the various representatives of the Rechabite and Good Templar Order. Songs were rendered by Bro. S. A. Howe, Misses Cammell, Marson.and Mrs. A. J. Black; recitations by Bro. A. E-Ili3, Mr. A. Vincent, and Miss Sylvia Carr; musical items were given by Sergt.-Major Bmslie on the pipes, and Bro. J. Wright on the violin, the accompanists for the evening being Miss Grace Carr and Miss Rowe. Bro. J. W. Foster read the annual report, showing an adult membership of 254, juveniles 185, associated foreign members 30, honorary members IS; total, 487. The funds were well invested showing a capital of £30 per member. The last valuation of the Tent made by the Government Actuary disclosed a surplus of £4 12/ per member. The returns from the head office gave the membership of the Order at 400,000. The members further celebrate the anniversary by a church parade at the Pltt-Ktreet Methodist Church next Sunday evening.

DiEVONPORT SCHOOL, COJIMITEE.

The usual monthly meetlns of the committee was held in the school on Thursday night, when there was a full attendance of members. Correspondence from the Board of Education vras read re the establishment of a side-schcol at Stanley Bay, advising that a suitable site had been purchased in Russell-street; that the Educational Department had made a grant for the erection of the building; and that the Board's architect had been instructed to prepare plans and invite tenders for the work. The headmaster reported that the roll number was now 867, and that on the Friday preceding Empire Day Sl3 children (jaraded at the ceremony of saluting the fisg.

ST. PETER'S BIBLE CLASS A>"D INSTITUTE.

The annual meeting of the above was held on Thursday night in St. Feter's Church, Grey Lynn. there being a fair attendance of members. The following were elected to the various committees:—Leader of class, Mr. Geo. Underwood; secretary and treasurer. R. A. Kamsay; librarian, 11. Kenning; delegates to district committee. P. K. Ness and H. Kenuinc; magazine reporter and agent. M. Cummins. A hearty vote of thanks was carried in appreciation of the outgoing committee's work during the year. After the general business was over an adjournment was made to the gymnasium, where a sumptuous supper was laid. A number of toasts were drunk. During the evening the following contributed to the programme:—Mr. Wilson, piano solo; Mr. Xoone. song; Mr. Underwood, song; Mr. Rumsay. recitation. The comical items by Mr. Brinsdeu caused (treat laughter, ha being encored several times.

HILL AND PLDMMER, LTD.

The annual meeting of Hill and Phimmer, Ltd., was held last night. Tile <u:iir was occupied by Mr G. Plummer. .As.disclosed by the annual report, the past year's business was very satisfactory, the sales being uearly £3500 in excess of the previous year. After deducting all expenses, the balance-sheet showed a net profit of £4260. A dividend of nine per ceat was accordingly recommended. This vvould absorb £2036, leaving s. balance had been erected in Hbbson-street, and the Queen-street shop had been improved at a cost of £391. The report was adopted, ami the directors" recommendation as to the dividend was agreed to.. Air J. C. Hill, retired from the directorate, was re-elected, and l£r Kevell was appointed auditor.

STANLEY. BAT BOYS' IMPROVEMENT CLUB.

The inaugural meeting of the ahove Club was held on Friday evening last at the residence of Mr L. Pegler. There was an enthusiastic attendance of youths ranging from 12 to 1(5 years of age. The object of the Club is the mental and moral improvement of its members. It was decided to hold meetings fortnightly. Master Sydney Jones was elected secretary. After the election of officers and other business had been gone through, amusing games were indulged in till 9.30 p.m., a profitable and pleasant evening being spent.

T.M.C.A. SOCIAL EVENING.

In connection with the Boys" Department of the T.3X.C.A.. a social evening, to open the winter session, was held In the Lecture Hall on Friday. The inclement weather interfered somewhat with the attendance, but a very pleasant and successful evening was spent, a number of lady and gentleman friends contributing musical items and recitations. At the ronclnsion of the entertainment refreshments were handed round by the Boys' Committee.
