ARBITRATION ACT.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The Arbitration Act has done a lot of good for us workers. I remember, before it was law, our boss used to come into the factory, with a very mournful look, and tell us that things were bad with him, gum and timber were down, gold mining not paying, and that he would have to reduce our wages. The funny part about it is that they never seemed to improve, though his business did; but since the Act came into force, he appears to have forgotten about his old tales, so I think the Act must have improved'the country, and he is getting his whack of our living wage. You may guess he is not a Liberal in any way, and sometimes goes on at a great rate about labour laws crippling business. Still he is increasing his plant, and putting on more hands to add to his crippling trouble, and I am beginning to think I wouldn't mind changing places, and relieve him of the /vrorry. I- will, however, give him his due. He will list-1 en to our complaints, and puts them . right straight away, and treats us like < men, as he knows it would not pay to j have us discussing him instead of doing our work, so we are going to stand to j the Government, which has carried out I what it promised to do as regards the workers-—I am,ctc, FACTORY HAND.
