RELIEF TO SETTLERS.
DISTRIBUTION OF GRASS SEED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day.. Returns of the value of grass seed supplied to settlers by the Government a.3 the result of the serious bush fires that occur early in the year, show that the amount expended was over £25,000. Details are as follow: Auckland, 201 settlers, value of seed f7,837; Hawke's Bay, 8 settlers, £133; Taranaki, 102 settlers, £1,515; Wellington, 319 settlers, £13,223; Nelson, 44 settlers, £1,023; Marlborough, 21 settlers, £1,681; Southland, 1 settler, £17 10s. The value of seed sown on Crown lands was £4,349. Of this Auckland absorbed £496; Hawke's Bay, £1,254; Taranaki, £40; Wellington, £578; Nelson, £440; Marlborough, £1,138.
