His Excellency the Governor, who is spending a week's holiday fishing neat Rotorua, is camped at the Awahou, and is having good sport with the trout. The Hon. H. Mosman, MX.C, os. Queensland, arriveU from , the South by the Yvaikare to-day. The Hon. E. McNab will not commence his tour of Central Otago till Monday, when he will leave Wellington for the South, joining the Prime Minister at Cromwell on "Wednesday night. Mr. Holmes, Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works Department, left Wellington on Monday upon a visit of inspection of the North Island Main Trunk line. He will afterwards go through the Auckland district, returning about a fortnight hence. Mr. F. Gladding, who, for the last eleven years, has been connected with the City Fire Brigade," is retiring, and will shortly be married. Last evening he was presented by his comrades with, a dinner service, and by Superintendent Woolley with a tea service. The late Mr. Willoughby. editor of the "Melbourne Argus," whose death was announced last week, was the first of the war correspondents of Australia; for he accompanied, for the "Argus," the troops of General Cameron in the New Zealand campaign, and wrote brilliant descrip-. tions of the fitting. The Hon. J. Carroll, Minister for Native affairs, is expected to return . te. Auckland this evening. This is, however, dependent upon the progress made in .the settlement of the native land' question, as the Minister will naturally stay a little longer in the Waikato if by doing so anything definite can be settled." " ; Captain A. Farquhar, of the Northern S.S. Co.'s p.s. Wakatere, is at present on a holiday. Captain E. Scott is relieving. " At the conclusion of the Kopu Regatta, on Saturday, when the Wakatere filled the position of flagship, Mr. A. Burns, Mayor of Thames, on behalf o* the Regatta Committee, presented Captain Farquhar with a handsome silver; cake dish and stand as a mark of their esteem, and in recognitien of servicesrendered.
