THE GOLDFIELDS.

SCANDrs-A-vTAN. THAMES, this day. The Scandinavian reports that picked stone has been obtained in the winze being sunk on the Black reef in the drive on Lowrie's reef. Prospects have improved. MINE MANAGERS* REPORTS. Champion.—The manager reports having inspected the roads, and finds that comparatively little damage was done by the floods. Carting has been resumed on. the Council-road,- and bullocks are hauling plant on the upper track. Temple Bar.—The rise has been carried np a further Sft. During the week a few nice colours of gold were seen In the reef, which maintains a width of abont 18 inches. The cross leader continues to give encouraging prospects. Scandinavian.—The drive north on Laurie's reef has been extended 10ft, making a total distance of 60ft from the crosscut. The quartz coming to hand is similar to that which was obtained in this level going south. Smithy LeveL—The winze has been sunk 4ft, making a total of 15. The quartz coming to hand shows strong dabs of gold. Mountain Kin_.—The winze has beerf snnk lift for the week. By the end of next week we should be down 40ft, when the manager proposes to crosscut for the lode. The country is a mild sandstone, interlaced with seams and flinties, and striking into the footwall where the reef is running. The country is very similar to where the reef was got in the No. 1 level, and I have no doubt, when the reef is cut, good results will be met with.

Karangahate.—The low level has been extended Sft, making a total of 97ft. The country is composed of quartz leaders and country rock intervenln.. Some of the leaders are a foot wide, and showing good minerals throughout. A strong flow of water Is issuing from the face, so I believe the ore body is near at hand. The No. 2 reef has been driven on 23ft, and has varied from 3 to sft. the quartz being well mineralised, and showing gold occasionaUy.

Moewai.—Last week's rains have prolonged completion of the connection of mi_2 with battery, bnt we expect to be prepaid for crushing by the end of next week, in anticipation of which e_tra men have been engaged. Rising snn.—The crosscut west from main level is now in a total distance of 31ft; the country still continues easy, and nothing of any importance has been met with so far. The crosscut east has been extended a total distance of 19ft, the country being intersected is intermixed with quartz and mineral veins. In the winze two men were employed part of the week driving on the hangingwall reef. The reef still maintains its size, and .gold can be seen in the ora broken.
