The reply was to the effect that a grant of £200 bad been approved, and it was considered that the difference between the sum applied for and that granted would be met out of interest arising from the contribution of the Auckland Savings Bank for the Auckland Technical College, on which a £ for £ subsidy was paid in February. 1907. Mr Parr expressed doubt as to the legality of utilising the interest In this way. The interest belonged to the principal, which was given for a specific purpose. It was decided .to write to the Department pointing out the difficulty. Fire • Escape.—Mr Darnell Smith, Assistant Director of Technical Education, pointed out that there was no means of escape from the upper stories of the Rutland-street building in the event of the staircase catching fire.
