HOSPITAL FOR CONSUMPTIVES.
£To the Editor.}. this evening's issue you report that the members of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board are exercising their minds to devise the best method of acquiring funds to be devoted to the housing of those unfortunate persons in our midst who are suffering from tuberculosis. Some time ago the V.M.C.A. canvassed the city in aid of their building fund with splendid results. Why cannot the H. and C.A. Board do the same? In the former case, no doubt, religious prejudices prevented many from giving, but in this case poverty can be the only reasonable excuse put forward by anyone. Allow mc to suggest thai the matter be taken up by the leading citizens, -who might be able to enlist the assistance of those persons who "wee so successful in the X.M-C-A. canvass, and who -would be able to bring their past experience to bear on the matter. There is not the slightest doubt that if the matter is gone about in the right ■way, and a thorough and systematic canvass made, the people of the city and surrounding district ■will rise splendidly to the occasion.—l am, etc., IT, 24/3/' 08.
