I The athletic sports In connection with the Auckland "Star" picnic were run off at / on Saturday atteraoo-tt. Ttie \ nic proper was held at Papakura the week previous, bat owing to the wet weather, the sports programme was postponed. Over 200 took part in Saturday's onting. and the various races were followed with keen interest. Competition was very keen, espeeiajly so in the inter-departmental tug-ot-war, which was won by the Office staff, j the Linotype department being second. Afternoon tea was provided under the able superintendence of Mrs H. Chatwin. The following are the results of the races:— Youths' Handicap, 75yds.— J. Strongman. 2yds, 1: W. Glass," scratch, 2. There were 3G competitors. Girls' Handicap, 75yds.—Miss Eileen Carroll 1. I "Star" Championship. 100 yds.—TV. Glass 1. H. Strongman 2. There were twenty competitors. Married Men's Race, 75yds.—P. 'SV. Taylor 1. R. G. Hewlett 2. Egg and Spoon Race Cfor girl employees). —Miss Mundy 1. Miss Eileen Carroll 2. Married Ladies' Race.—Mrs H. L.. Brett 1, Mrs Young 2, Mrs Hume 3. 100 Yards Handicap.—C. Cameron. 6yds, 1. W. Flower, 3yds, 2. There were 2i competitors. Veterans' Race: .7. Hrnne 1. H. Lymin 2. Three-legged Race, 50yds.—Alexander and Riddell 1. Johnsdn and Porter 2. Eight pairs started, and the race was provocative of much merriment. A number of children's races were also run. The donations to the prize fund by the Brett Printing and Publishing Co. and members of trie company's staff were augmented by the Northern Roller Milling Co., Messrs J. J. Craic;. Ltd., Mr George Read, and iir 3. rrir.ee. The meeting was brought to a close with three cheers for ifr and 3lrs H. L: Brett.
