ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.
OLD COMMITTEE RESIGNS. The Auckland Anniversary Regatta entails an enormous amount of on its promoters. For years past this has been shouldered by the same gentlemen, with occasional additions to fieir numbers; but, taken all through, the great bulk of the followers of aquatic sports give practically no assistance towards the actual work in connection with the promoting of the function. At a recent meeting, the committee came to the conclusion that it was time some of the younger men should relieve them of the arduous work which the successful promotion and carrying out of the regatta entails.. All, Jhe, older men on the comoverwhelming majority,- intimated that they thought they had done their share of the work, which now would devolve on the young men. The work of the last regatta was particularly trying on the committee. Conobtaining a requisite number of canvassers, and when these had been secured the difficulties were not surmounted, as all did not work with the enthusiasm of the older hands, with the result thai the receipts barely paid expenses. The receipts, including a balance from the previous year, amounted to £601 19/8, the expenditure to £569 7/4, leaving a credit balance of £32 12/2. The expenses, it will be seen, were very heavy, the prizes alone amounting to nearly £440. The balance has been placed in the bank in the name of trustees, and will be available should another committee be formed to continue the regatta.
