A case, which clearly evinces the necessity for watchfulness on the part of the owners of small craft in and around . the. harbour, occurred only yesterday at North Shore, when a resident of the , Stanley Bay district happened to ob- • serve a boat occupied by a man and two boys, engaged in towing another rowing ' boat, portion of his own family's property. away from its moorings. Several members of the family gave chase at once, and were in time to see the ras- ' cally trio tie up their '•'catch" to a ' tree, near O'Neill's Point, whence they journeyed on towards Northeote. The rightful owners brought the boat back to its accustomed anchorage, finding to their surprise, that the craft, which "had held . a considerable quantity of water, had been thoroughly bailed out preparatory to its removal, thus affording evidence that the depredators had been singularly free from any fear of detection.
