THE AUSTRALIAN STRIKES.
FBEE TABOtmKR TJSES THE REVOLVER. (By Mail.) SYDNEY, March 20. Shortly after 9 o'clock this morning a free labourer was attacked by a gang of men in Kent-street, and had to defend himself with a revolver. From the official report supplied by Superintendent Mitchell, it appears that the free labourer had just knocked offwork at tlie North Coast Company's Wharf, and was proceeding across Kentstreet, with the intention of going home by tram, when he was assailed by a shower of stones. He ran through a lane in Grosvenor-street, but the men still followed, and attacked him. Finding himself at bay. he turned round, faced the mob, and fired off his revolver, ■with the result that the was not further molested, and eventually reached home safely. The ringleader of the gang is known, and an arrest will probably follow some time during the day. t-hortly after 1 o'clock this morning a free labourer, working on the North Coast Company's Wharf, was assaulted by a man who is said to be a unionist. The police on duty arrested the assailant, but on reaching the police station, the free labourer declined to sign the cttarge sheet, on the ground that he .had not been very badly knocked about.
