REVOLUTION IN THE WORKING OF WINDOW SASHES.
A GREAT INVENTION BY AN AUCKLAND MAN. We have seen a patent that has been invented by Mr. T. E. Carter, of Vic-toria-street, Auckland, that bids fair to eclipse anything of its kind in the world. It has been patented in all the principal countries of the world, and is known as "Carter's Champion" Safety Combined Window Sash Lifter and Lock. Builders, architects, and the public who have seen the contrivance at work, pronounce it to be a masterpiece of simplicity and efficiency. Its object is to dispense with the dangerous sash-lines, heavy weights, and crude, unsafe types of fasteners now in use, at the same time, by a very simple means, to lock the sash firmly, open or closed; and a marvellous feature of the contrivance is, that it entirely prevents the sashes warping, so prevalent in the old system. Also, it is an absolute preventive of all rattling of sashes, hence an unspeakable boon to light sleepers, nervous folk, students, etc. There is no fear of that nerve-racking and sleepless night caused through rattling windows. The importance ofj the last two items can hardly be exaggerated. It is claimed by the highest authorities in the building trade to be i a marvel, and must, wherever introduced, become in universal use, as it is absolutely burglar-proof. To sum up, in a few words, tbe advantages (compared with" £be old system) are as follows: Total absence of warping of window sash, immunity from accidents caused through breaking of window cords, no more jambing of sashes no mere rattling, absolutely burglarproof, an ideal ventilator; 'in fact, all that is needed. For schools, hospitals, universities, public buildings, dwellinghouses, tram cars, railway carriages, ferry boats; in fact, wherever windows are used, this invention seems to us to be invalnable, and we anticipate that it will be in general use as soon as the public are aware of its merits. From patriotic motives, also, we are pleased that it is the invention of one who is living in our midst, and we predict a great future for "Carter's Champion." We understand there is about to be formed a company to supply the Dominion with the article. Shares will no doubt be quickly taken up, and the lucky shareholders will reap a rich reward. For further particulars apply to "Carter Champion" Window Sash Company, Ltd., H. P. Taylor, secretary, 1 and 2, Tyrone Buildings, Cus-toms-street, Auckland.
A builder, iv looking over 13 reasons "Why You Should Use Carter's Champion," said to Mr. Carter, "But you have not stopped the warping of sashes." "Oh, yes, I have," replied Mr. Carter. "But I say you have not. I -will bet one thousand pounds to sixpence that there is not a man born, or ever will be, that can do it." Mr. Carter then showed him how it was done, and the builder said, "By Jove, sir, you have it. Wonderful! the whole contrivance is a marvel; it wiU take on wherever introduced."—(Au.s , 3 L ,
