The new Rand gold law vests the sole rights of mining gold in the Crown, while i the mining of base metals is vested in the landowner. Discoverers are granted 50 claims free. , The Government, according to this Act, [may proclaim private land without the owners' consent, and may also erect public batteries and melting works. Only whites are to be allowed to trade on the mines and coloured men will not be allowed to acquire any rights under the gold law or reside on a goldneld except in bazaars, locations, or mining compounds.
