LION TAMER'S NARROW ESCAPE.

Tiere was an exciting scene at a roenaserie in Battersea, London, last month, when i lion attacked its trainer in its ca<-e the animal, which had shown ill-temper ail the week, had gone through most of its performances, and its coloured attendant Marco had turned his back oa it to leave the cage, when it sprang on him. There was a large crowd in the menagerie and the lion's leap caused an agonised cry to go up from the spectators. Instantly the Lion had torn a hole in Marco's leather coat, and blood ran from a wound in his back. A number of assistants rushed forward with iron forks and succeeded in beating tie animal off its prey before he was very seriously injured. Before leaving the cage, ilarco again faced tie lion, and insisted on making it perform one or two of its tricks.
