MOUNT ALBERT - AVONDALE POSTAL FACILITIES.
A deputation brought before the notice of the Hon. G. Fowlds this morning the need for increased postal facilities at Mt. Albert, Avondale, and surrounding districts. Mr. J. W. Shackleford referred to the great growth of the district, and said that it was quite time that better postal facilities were afforded the people who resided out that way. At present, if a mail arrived at Onehunga at 8 a.m. one day, the letters were not delivered at Mt. Albert or Avondale until 11 a.m. the following day. They thought it was time there were two deliveries per day. Then in the matter of despatches, they had to post letters by 5 o'clock each night, to secure delivery in town next morning. They thought it was time they could post letters later at night, and have them delivered early next morning. Boxes at the various railway stations could be cleared by the stationmaster or guards on the late train. They wanted two deliveries a day, and later postal ! facilities. Another trouble at Mt. Albert was that owing to the bureau being at a shop, no telegrams could be delivered after 1 o'clock on Wednesday afternoons, owing to the weekly halfholiday. Mr. Fowlds said he would have pleasure in handing on the representations of the deputation to the proper Department to deal with the matters brought before his notice.
