A BULL AMONG THE BOWLERS.
Some diversion vras created during the bowling tournament at Benraera green yesterday afternoon. A stock yard adjoins the club's grounds,- and a yearling ' bull, clearing a stiff fence, at once caused a commotion amongst a large number of his fellow species in the yaid, raising the ire of an old bull to such an, extent that lie charged the intruder, and a. battle royal, lasting over 2Q mimrfcee, ensued. The first round was fast and furious, and a lot of ground -was covered. Then both animals sought a much, needed rest. In round No. 2, each tried to » force the other on to the rails, and hard knocks were frequently exchanged. Both were palpably tiling when time waft called. The third and final round was fought in a careful and guarded manner. The youneer animal, by a series of ■, feints, enticing his unweildy opponent too near the rails. A vicious charge by \ the big one was firmly met by the ' young one. -with. Ms head well down. • An upward jerk, and. by a masterly 1 manoeuvre, the youngster had the big . animal's foreleg over his wither, and with a dexterous twist hurled him over T ' the fence —or, rather, through it, the j top rail giving way under the strain. A stockman then came on the scene with a stick, and the big animal beat an undignified retreat, leaving his successful rival in charge of the domestic domicile. The incident was watched by a number of spectators, including many bowlingcompetitors, who forsook their game for the time being.
