A complimentary social is to be tendered the Hon. J. A. Millar this evening by the residents of Ellerslie. Invitations have been issued to all the adjacent local bodies, and it is expected that there will be a large attendance. The function is a strictly non-party one. In giving evidence at the Police Court this morning, and in reply to a question . from Mr Kettle, Constable Christianson ■ said that he understood that if he arresteA a man, and then found out he had S-rrested him wrongly, he was still bound to take him to be discharged by a magistrate. "Extraordinary 3 " commented Mr Kettle. Our Otahuhu correspondent writes: "Under the influence of the late warm weather the fruit crops are ripening fast, and plums and tomatoes are beginning to move into the market.
