, ' Murderer Declared Insane. (Keceived 8.18 a.m.) LONDON, January 5. It transpires that Major Henry Coates Phillips, who attempted to shoot his divorced wife on Thursday last, at her residence, Crockham, Hampshire, had previously asked her to re-many him. She refused, and it was then that he went away, returned with a revolver and, after firing at his v.-ife without effect, mounded her mother, who has succumbed to her injuries, seriously wounded Mr Smith, a solicitor, and then shot hiniself dead. At the inquest on Phillips a verdict of suicide while insane was returned.
