VOLUNTEER NEWS.

AKARANA RIFLE CLUB. The series of weekly competitions was continued by the Akarana Rifle Club at Penrose on Saturday, when the third match for the championship was fired in conjunction with the aggregate trophy match for the B class. At the long range a somewhat tricky wind proved troublesome. The conditions for both matches were seven shots at 500 yds, 600 yds, and 700 yds, and the highest range scorers were Messrs. J. Potter and A. Patrick, each 34, and A. C. Watson, 33 at 500 yds, Messrs. J. Potter 34, and A. Patrick S3 at 600 yds, and Mr. M. Atkinson 32 at 700 yds. The following is a list of the principal competitiors, with the scores registered at each range:— J. Potter, 34 at 500 yds, 34 at 600 yds, 20 at 700yds—97; M. Atkinson, 32, 29, 32—93; A. The Eden Rifle Cadets have just finished a series of matches for a clock presented to the company by Lieut. W. C. Sinel. The conditions were 6 matches of 11 shots and a sighter (not to count), the best 4 scores to count. The following were the scores:— Sergt. Holland, 184; Corp. Cantell, 17S; Sergt. Campbell, 177; Corp. Purchase, 176; Col.-Sergt Gray, 175; Cadet K. Vernon, 174; Cadet S. Vernon, 173; Corp. Cosgrave, 171; Drummer Crawford, 166; Cadet Elliott, 114 (retired); Cadet Carter, 105 (retired); Corp. Cundall, 104 (retired); Sergt Kernot, 301 (retired); Cadet Petford, 35 (retired). The following the scores for a trophy presented to the Eden Rifle Cadets by Lieut. M. Atkinson, the conditions being 4 matches of 8 shots and a sighter (not to connt): —Cadet R. Vernon, handicap 5, total 130; Cadet Baylis, 5, 127; Corp. Purchase, scratch, 123; Sergt. Holland, owes 8, 122; Sergt. Campbell, owes 3, 121; Cadet McCullagh, 7, IIS; Corp.
