THE OYSTER TRADE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Alio iv mc some space in your paper to ventilate my grievances. As a dealer of oysters, I have engaged several men at full weekly wages for the season, and, through scarcity of oysters, I can give them only a couple of hours daily employment at full weekly wages. The cause of this is, because the Government opened the worked-out oyster beds (Rangitoto) of last year, and closed down after three weeks' opening the new beds at Ponui Island, which, according to experienced oyster pickers, could have been worked for a few more -weeks. You can see therefore that this is a great loss to mc, aa well as my' customers. I hope that the public will take the matter in hand. —Yours, etc.. C. MELVILLE. Auckland, July 11, 1907.
