MELBOURNE HIDES MARKET. MELBOURNE, July 18. At the hide sales there was good competition, and the market was steady, prices remaining unchanged. MESSRS. ALFRED BL'CKLAND AND SUNS' REPORT. Horses. —At the liaymarket on Friday last we had an average entry. No heavy colts or lillies were yarded. Aged draughts sold at from £16 to £27 5/, medium draughts £21 10/ to £36 10/, light harness and buggy horses £10' to £2S 10/, ordinary ba-::ks and gig ponies £2 12/6 to £11, gig, pony, and harness £20. buggy £11 15/, the hunter Ngaru £10, mare Star of the South '21 guineas. At Remuera on Thursday dairy cows j came forward in larger numbers than usual, j Best sold up to £ 10/, others to £6, dry l £2 to £4. Fat and young calves, in average numbers, were iv strong demand at from 2/ j to £2 2/— 98 sold. There was an average yarding of fat cattle of choice quality, which met with a ready sale throughout at I late quotations, ox beef being firm at 22/ j per 1001b. and cows' at 20/. Steers ranged in price from £0 3/ to £11 32/6, cows £4 to j £S 2/G—29B sold. Sheep, penned snort of requirements, were In demand at fully 2/6 advance all round for all classes, extra prime wethers selling to 31/, others to 25/, ewes to 'JSi/, hoggets to 10/. I'igs also sold freely throughout. Small S/6 to 14/, porkers to 3S/, baconers to £2 19/ —55 sold. Poultry 2/. Hides, Skins, Tallow, etc.—Hides: Ox 4&d to 6{d, cow 4jd to aid, kip 4Jd to 5Jd, [ calf 6d to 6sd, horse 6/ to 10/, damaged j hides l*d to sd, horsehair 1/s*, tallow 25/ a to 20/9, bones 4/9 to 5/. Skins: .Best butI chers' 5/ to 6/3, medium 3/4 to 4/11, small and damaged 1/2 to 2/S.
LONDON WOOL SALES.
