OAMARU, this day.

Alfred Smith., chauffeur, of Christeirurch, was to-day lined £0 and costs £2 5/ for driving a motor car between Dnnedin and Oamaru at aspeed in excess of that prescribed by law. Defendant did not appear, }>ut wrote a letter to the magistrate, admitting the offence. The prosecution was the outcome of a newspaper paragraph, to the effect that the defendant had established a motor record for the distance.
