As a tram car was coming down Pittstreet at 9.30 a.m. to-day, 'an old man, who is stated to be a resident of Avondale, walked right in front of it, just at the Grey-street corner. He -was knocked down and carried under the platform', but, as the ear was proceeding at a slow pace, it was quickly brought to a standstill, and a more serious accident averted. The man sustained a bad cut on the head, but although considerably shaken, was able to walk away. It has sines been found that he was deaf.
