Family Amenities.—David McQuoid was charged with using obscene language, and also with assaulting Margaret Stokes in Short-street on Wednesday last. Mr McGregor conducted the case for the prosecution, Mr Brookfield defending. The allegation was that defendant used a quantity of vile language on the 10th inst., and again two°days later, while intervening between his wife and her sister, Miss Stokes, and that he accompanied it by violent treatment of Miss Stokes. The defence was a general denial of the alleged language and assault, the husband's solicitude for his wife having occasioned him to throw her sister aside somewhat roughly while the two women were lying on the ground. The Bench dismissed the information in connection with the charge of using foul language, and fined defendant £5 and costs on the assault count, binding him in sureties to keep the peace for sis months.
