(Received 10.S a.m.)
MELBOURNE, this day. At Federal Government House, the exrailway fireman Pearce was presented with an Albert Medal of the first-class for conspicuous bravery in crawling through boiling water and steam and rescuing the driver of a derailed engine at Newcastle in December, 1905.
SCULLERS IN TRAINING.
(Received 9.4S a.m.)
SYDNEY, this day.
The improved weather conditions since Friday hare given the scullers a chance of putting in better work. Webb, who is working alone., does one spin daily. Evidently the visitor is picking up the steering marks. His methods of training differ from those of the local scullers, but his present form indicates that he knows what is the amount of work required to keep in good form. Report credits him with doing a fairly fast trial on Sunday. Towns has rowed twice daily.
