Captain Lindsay, of the Ta-viirui, left for New Plymouth en route to Dunedin by the Takapuna yesterday.

Mr. D. C. LiQey, late second officer of the Manuka, is now chief officer on the turbine steamer Loongana,

Captain Evans, late of the Wainui, took charge of the Taviuni on Thursday evening, ancf Mr. Flynn, late acting master, signed on as chief officer.

Captain John Nearing and Mrs. Nearing left on a visit to Queensland by the Victoria last night.

Mr. Lawson, who has been for some time chief steward in the Moeraki, will leave that vessel on her arrival at Sydney this trip, and proceeds Home to take up a similar position on the Union Company's new steamer Marama, which is now rapidly nearing completion.

The death ia announced of Mrs Hannah, widow of the late John Hannah, at the age of 89 years. Mrs Hannah was one of the earliest colonists, having arrived here with her husband in the ship Duchess of Argyle in 1542. She resided at the Thames during the boom, and subsequently made a trip to the Old Coun. try. She has resided in Auckland ever since.

Mr. John Young, formerly Secretary of the Auckland Chajnber of Commerce, died at his residence, Eden Vale-road' on Saturday. Deceased was 87 years of age and a native of England. He lived in the reign, of George TV"., saw William IV. crowned, also Queen Victoria, and finally was a subject of Edward VTI. for several years. Mr. Young saw Queen Adelaide receive the gift of lippo Saheb's golden stool. He was for many years an auditor, secretary of various mining companies, and as already indicated, was secretary of the Chamber of Commerce in the days when it met in a small rtkrm at the Exchange.
