AUCKLAND AMATEUR BOXING CLUB.

The tournament promotes by the -fuckland Amateur Boxing Club was held in the Koyal Albert Han last evening, when tue hnai u< , the iOst enainpionship between and Hunter, and the weight proiessional championship Detween Gray and Gauit were decided. Messrs Towoisend and Hayes opened the programme with three interesting rounds, alter whicn iletcalie and Huuter appeared. Hetcaire did all the lorcing in the first round, and got all over Hunter, who seemed all at »ea. in the second round Hunter livened up a little and there was not a great lot octween tnem at the finish. Metcalfe took a decided lead in the third round, and although Hunter ec|ualieed things a little in the final, iletcalie had too big a lead, and the verdict, "Metcalfe wins,;' was a ° Batcheior and Edwards were billed to spar three three-minute rounds, but the iatter (wiio came to Auckland with, a big reputation) gave a very farcical displas, and Batchelor hit him when he liked, eventually knocking him out during the first round.

Uray and Gault next appeared for the most important bout of the evening. Both men looked well, Gray especially bearing a well trained appearajice. When the men got together, Gault immediately got to work, and Gray had to resort to clinching to avoid punishment, while he went to the floor on lour occasions, and was cautioned for fouliug. In the second round Ganlt again 6howed to advantage, and although, Gray fought gamely enough, he appeared outclassed. In the third round, whica proved the final, Gault again showed to most advantage, Gray losing his head altogether, and deliberately fouled his opponent,'.and. the fight was given against him.
