Extravagance has been the bane of Bus \rilfttl, if popular, novelist, and itfingSrecently grew desperate with her when she 'was expelled from her beautiful |riU»,at Lucca, in Tuscany, owing to her failure, to meet her financial obligations. Ouida, who is no longer youthful, was Bow homeless, and had to pass a night under tie trees.. Fortunately, the mother oi an old servant discovered her sore jtiaiis, and sheltered her in her cottage.
