NEW ZEALAND FOOTBALLERS.
A STORMY VOYAGE. HEARTY WELCOME TO SYDNEY. SYDNEY, July 11. The steamer Warrimoo, -with the New Zealand footballers, arrived at five o'clock this morning. The Warrimoo experienced stormy conditions during the first two days, and throughout the trip had te battle against head winds. The team suffered considerably from seasickness, all but one keeping to their berths on the first day. Only two had sufficiently recovered to get about on the second day, while some were about for the first time yesterday. One or two are a bit weak from the effects of the sickness, but otherwise all landed in good condition.
There was a large gathering at the official reception to the team at the Rugby Union Rooms at noon. The President of the Lnion was in the chair, and speeches complimentary to the prowess of the visitors were made.
At the official welcome the footballers were accorded a hearty reception, the Town Hall being crowded. Mr. C. G Wade, Attorney-General, presided, and extended, on behalf of the Government, a hearty welcome to the visitors.
Mr. Wylie, manager of the team, in reply, gave an assurance that not one of the team would join in the professional tour to Great Britain.
The statement evoked great enthusiasm.
