Mr R. H. Harrison has resigned the position of manager of the South Kapanga mine, and will leave Coromandel at the end of the present week.

Mrs D. F. T. Bruce was a passenger by the Manapouri for Suva, en route to Vancouver where she joins her husband, Lieut. Bruce, R.N.R., of.H.M.C.S. Iris.

Mr J. Breen, formerly rep. three-quar-ter for Auckland, and now in the Union S.S. Co.'s service at Wellington, is to be married to-morrow.

The 'Taranaki Herald" hears that Mr O'Loughlin, the popular stationmaster at New Plymouth, will shortly be_j?romoted to either Wellington or Auckland. ■

Mr A. G. East, a member of the Wellington Stock Exchange, was a guest at the noon call of the Auckland Exchange to-day, being introduced by the chairman, Mr G. A. Buttle.

Mr J. B. Massey, founder of the firm of Massey Bros., Ltd., was presented hy th_ employees on Tuesday with a case of pipes and an umbrella, also a silver teapot for Mrs Massey. The occasion was the departure of Mr Massey on a two months' trip to America.

An appreciation of the late Sir John Hall as a. sterling colonist, a devoted citizen and, a sincere and able statesman, whose philanthropy throughout his life had beep emphasised after his death by his gifts to charity, benevolence, ednca- ______ and religion, was passed in the form of a resolution by the Epsom Road Board.

An interesting personality left the Transvaal recently, when Mr Patrick Duncan sailed for England. He affords a striking example of Lord Miner's ability to choose capable officials. Brought out as Colonial Treasurer in 1901, he subsequently became Colonial Secretary, and later Lieutenant Governor. Mr Duncan is a nephew of Mr D. Milne of the Kaipara. Colonel Fermaud, world's secretary of the V.M.C.A., took his departure from Auckland yesterday by the s.s. Mana--pouri, en route for Vancouver. Accompanying him is Mr R. L. Stewart, honorary treasurer of the local branch. Mr J. J. Virgo, general secretary of the Sydney Association, joins them at Suva. All three will he present at the international conference to be held shortly in the United States.

The numerous friends of Dr. R. W. Allen,, an old Auckland; Grammar School boy,. w___L._hear wdth pleasure of his progress .ia_his. profession in London. He has just been delivering.a series of lectures at the Royal Eye Hospital, in conjunction with such eminent men as Doctors Vernon Cargill, Willeughby Lyle, G. T. Brookshank, and Arthur Osmond. Dr. Allen is in practice in Wim-pole-street, in the West End, and is specialising in diseases of the eye.

Miss M. Street, who has relinquished the post of .matron at the Coromandel Hospital, to take up a similar position at the Convalescent Home at Ellerslie, was on Tuesday afternoon presented with a silver-mounted toilette case by the chairman of the Hospital Trustees (Captain Swindley) on behalf of the public of Coromandel (says our Coromandel correspondent). Dr. Smith replied on behalf of the matron, and afterwards presented her with a silver manicure set from the hospital staff.

Yesterday afternoon members of the New Zealand Ironmasters' Association met at the secretary's office, Queenstreet, for the purpose, of saying goodbye to Messrs. J. B. Massey," of Massey Brothers, Ltd., and R. B. Spink, of W. A. Ryan and Co., who were about to leave for 'Frisco by the Manapouri. Advantage was taken of the opportunity to present each of the members with a greenstone "tiki," as a token of good fellowship, and the hope was expressed that they would have an enjoyable trip.

Mr James Lanagan, coach for the Stanford University College, California, who is visiting Australasia in order to study Rugby football, left Wellington on Saturday night in the Warrimoo, en route to Sydney. Mr Lanagan will accompany ' the New Zealand Rugby : representative team on its tour to New South Wales and Queensland, and will leave Brisbane for Vancouver on August 6th, arriving at Stanford University on September 2nd. Mr Lanagan was joined on Saturday by his brother, Mr P. Lanagan, also of Stanford University, who holds the pole-vaulting record for California State with a jump of 12ft 4in.
